I bought and began her book: 'Jezebel' and will read all that I can find of hers. If you simply love great writing you will do well by reading Ms Hazleton. I love how she writes!Īnyone who has an interest in the Near and Middle East will be well compensated by reading Ms Hazleton's work. I have never read a style quite like Ms Hazleton's nor have I read of her subject matter, of which I have a keen interest.

'After the Prophet' (sorry, no italic on this device) is a brilliantly beautiful read. What a boon for other readers and me to experience this and the gravitas of this staggeringly and profoundly great writer and author.

Ms Hazleton's work is imbued with a centered and grounded quality of character that is at once beauty and integrity this can only belong to the author herself. What a delight! I cannot speak to the reliability of her research however she details her research articulately, copiously, believably. Reading this work is my initial foray into Ms Hazleton's great writing prowess. Where Ali once struggled against Muawiya, Shia Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia today vie with each other for influence.' Anyone with an interest in the Middle East, U.S.-international relations or a profound story masterfully told will be well served by this exceptional book. The battle to name Muhammad's successor is gripping but it is Hazleton's ability to link the past and present that distinguishes this book: 'the main issue is again what it was in the seventh century who should lead Islam? played out on an international level.
